    First Striker

I'm in the process of picking up an older Striker (15 years) in .308 Win. This will be the first time going in to the deep end on a bolt action pistol, although I have owned TC Encores and Contenders in the past. I'm assuming my new Striker has the 510 action and not a undesignated action that was built in to a pistol.

After reviewing this forum, as well as the information on Speciality Pistols, is it fair to say that options for upgrading the Striker are almost as great as Savage Centerfire rifles?

Primary interested in caliber swaps. More of a 260 Rem fan. I see McGowan and Pac-Nor mentioned in this forum as possible barrel suppliers, but would any barrel manufacture work with the Striker? Not sure if a 510 action is the equivalent of the 10/110 action.

Okay looked closer and see the answers to my question. Any short shank barrel is an option.

Marine24 I have the exact one in 260 rem. that I just got also, have yet to shoot it. I believe the model is a 516 BSAK, if you need a schematic I think Numrich has one online. If they don't I am pretty sure I have all the original paper work ( I'll check) and if I do I'll try to figure out out to scan and send it to you.

I believe so as well The 510 is the blued version with the 516 being stainless. It does look like a factory Super Striker and should be a good shooting SP. You are looking for a small shank barrel, not short shank. If the shank is too short it may nor have enough threading for the barrel nut. There are a few differences in action but nothing that would apply to barrel swaps other than small shank.
    More shooting, less typing.

Thanks Gents for the input. Obviously fat fingered small vs short.

Froggy: Appreciate the offer on the schematic. Followed your recommendation and pulled one down from Numrich's.

This pistol looks like it will be a lot of fun, although 223 Rem may be a more practical caliber. Guess I might actually get good at swapping barrels/headspacing.

You could also consider .22-250 and 6BR Norma if you want to stay with the same bolt head and magazine.

Get ahold of Jim at www.apachegunworks.com and tell him I sent you. He will make you a barrel in almost any caliber and contour you want it and it will be a shooter. Jim does great work, great prices, and he keeps his lead times very short compared to most custom barrel makers.

Appreciate the recommendation. I have another Savage long gun that needs a new barrel.
