    Bolt handle improvement

Has anybody done or seen a bolt handle that is made out of an empty case? Was thinking of trying it on my 30-06 out of a fired 30-06 case.

I handled one made from a 30-06. Didn't quite feel right, was a tad too slim. I'll bet Robinhood is right and a WSM would feel nice. Or maybe a WSSM crimped onto a shaft to space it outwards a bit.

So I tried a 30-06 first, seeing as how the rifle is chambered in 30-06.the thinness doesn't bother me as much as the length. It seems a little too long,I soldered it on so getting it off won't be a problem.I think I will try a short mag case on there next.

I would worry about bending the soft brass case... Looks real cool though. If there was a way to stiffen it, it would work great.

Fill the case with epoxy. That should stiffen it up.

I just ground down the bolt knob so the case would fit over it.Drilled the flash hole out and filled the case through the flash hole with solder.feels really strong, and if I decide,I already did,to replace the '06 case with a wsm case, all I need to do is heat it back up and pull the case off and I'm ready to start over.

Here's a bad pic of it with a 300 wsm case.I do like this better, not as long and a bit fatter.I'll try it for a while and see how strong it is,then clean up the rough edges a bit and do something to pretty it up.

There. that looks better. Paint it with some clear poly. Try an o-ring around the extraction groove.

Thanks Robin hood,I'm thinking I might drill the primer hole out again and putting a hollow primer cup in it so it looks like a live round.
