    Magnum to non-magnum

I have a S/S 116 that was a 7 Rem mag. The barrel is toast and I want to make it a 6.5-284. Will a non-magnum bolt face be all that I need?? Do you foresee any feeding problems?? I plan on seating the bullet out to utilize the mag box and throating the barrel to match.

It can and has been done with no feeding problems. Use the 30-06 BF. Check to see if your bolt body is keyed and if you have the large or small firing pin.

Throating may be an exercise in futility if you take it too far. As the throat erodes you'll have to chase the lands and you might run out of case neck. Imagine needing at least a caliber of bullet in the case an not having it.
