    savage 111

hi guys, just joined and I have a question. I just purchased a savage 111 in 30-06 from my brother due to financial reasons. I am not really in need of an 06 and was wondering what varmint caliber I can change my 111 to. It has a synthetic stock with a blind mag. Any help and advice would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum and enjoy!

If you reload, it opens up more opportunity, esp. if you're into wildcatting.

The easiest if you reload, is to load a varmint load depending on range and what you're going after, i.e., 155 Berger VLD. You can also load sabots (like the accelerators) >>> http://www.sabotreloadingpro.com/.30_06

Without changing bolt face you can just re-barrel it (lot of good choices in prefit barrels) to one of the list below ...

Long actions with a bolt face .DIA of .470 +/-
    220 Swift, 6mm Rem, 240 Weatherby Mag, 257 Roberts, 25-06 Rem,
    6.5x55 Swedish, 270 Win, 7x57 Mauser, 7x64 Brenneke, 280 Rem, 30/06 Springfield,
This is just a start, I'm sure will be chiming in soon.

Good luck and happy safe shooting/hunting.

    Ed

110 gr bullet over 60 gr of 4895 at 3500fps+ sounds like a good varmint round to me.lol

Or you could always go to the 2506. 75 gr v max at 3900fps tears coyotes up, and 4200 in my 12tw 2506ai

Before Savage developed their short action receiver, all factory chamberings were done on a long action receiver. Capable varmint rounds such as the 223 Remington, 22/250, 243, 250 Savage were all based off the 110 model. With the right barrel, baffles, bolt head, and magazine box/follower just about anything is possible.
