Looks like an 1895 to me. What do you think?

Hey everyone,
I have inherited what I believe is a 99 Savage. I don't know much about it. Part of the barrel is octogoned and I believe the stock has been replaced. I'm not interested in selling the weapon and I'm not looking to find out what it's worth. I was just hoping the experts and savage enthusiasts here could just tell me a little about the weapon. The imgur link below is an album of the photos I took of the rifle. If there are different photos that would be helpful in identifying it please let me know.

Thanks for the help,
Matt

Shouldn't the serial number be between 0-7000ish if it is a 1895, this one seems to have 5 digits.
I didn't see the five digit number. Model 1999s may have been marked as such on the barrel and the early 99's should have been marked on the frame ring as well. I am no expertthough so I will leave it to somebody much more educated than I. good luck.
It's a model 1899C, the buttstocks been replaced.
Not sure why someone would scratch out the fifth digit, maybe trying to pawn it off as an 1895 but there are a lot more factors to an 1895 than just a serial number.
I'm guessing if you pop off the forearm the actual serial number with all 5 digits will be stamped on the back of it.
Savage- "never say never".
