Need help id Stevens action and finding conversion parts

I picked up a Stevens LA Serial #F08XXXX with a 308 bolt head (came off a 270). I want to convert it to a 223 bolt head. I suspect it is old enough to have the large firing pin? I went to Savage Arms parts finder and typed in the serial number and get a message that the finder does not go back farther than F4XXXXXX. Any help pointing me in right direction is appreciated.

Large firing pin is 0.140" , small is 0.098", Midway has complete firing pin assy. for about $20. Don't forget to get bolt head retaining pin. Also get bolt head for long action.

I hate to be a buzz killer but in all honesty you are better off selling it and buying a 223. The parts alone are cost prohibitive in my opinion.

    Robinhood,
Your probably right. Once I figure our what parts to get and do the math, it may not be cost effective.

    short round,
Is a new bolt head retaining pin required or can the existing pin be reused? Also, assuming this bolt has the large firing pin (haven't taken it apart yet) can a large pin bolt head be purchased or do I need to buy the small pin and the small pin bolt head?
    Thanks
    Terry

Only need to change retaining pin if changing firing pin size. Large pin on small firing pin will allow pin to move & can cause action to jam. The length & diameter of the pins are the same, only the hole the firing pin goes thru is different. Firing pin & bolt head need to match in size. Finding a bolt head in, 223 for a 110, may be hard to do. At one time savage made 223 on long action. The shank on long action bolt head is .125'' longer than short action bolt head, this may cause firing pin to not work, if a short action bolt head is used, due to excessive protrusion, some people say they can be adjusted, others use an adapter from Sharp Shooter Supply.
