    Barrel Rack - Holder

Does anyone make or sell Barrel Racks or Holders, I am not sure what you call them, just something to store them.

I designed one once, but never built it. I keep buying actions to mount my barrels on.

I was thinking of using PVC pipe.

Anything, as long as they're standing in end. Lay them on their sides and they'll bend (over time).

Hey Scope eye. I'm seeing 1.5" SDR PVC 20" long or less attached vertical to 1x4's along the wall. Caps or a runner on the bottom of the pvc tubes and conduit clamps doing the placement. Or lay them flat on the shelf and turn them 90 degrees once a week or any other arbitrary time frame.

The former is what I had in mind, at 20" I could get 6 sections per 10' length, I was hoping to find something like a threaded rod display, just like at a hardware store, but the PVC route will be fine.

Why not use a 2 piece fishing rod rack? Open tray bottom with a clip top. Just mount them as close as your shortest barrel.

At the machine shop, we use a very heavily made rack to hang crankshafts from. Easier with them, as most have a flange that the flywheel is bolted too.

But, maybe a rack that runs a rod through the bore with a _ at the bottom?

This just gave me and idea. What if you took all the old barrel nuts that folks have lying around (like damaged smooth nuts) and welded them to a flat bar. Mount the flat bar to the floor, then just thread the barrels into the nuts so the barrels are standing up. Maybe mount it in a closet, or inside a cabinet, or something.

On behalf of all the old barrel nuts lying around, and maybe even a few damaged smooth nuts, I'd like to say that that's a great idea, and we'd be proud to serve such a function. Just don't relegate us to a closet. If you're gonna make us work, display us with pride. ;-)

dean you could easily make a rack like this out of wood pretty cheap...then you could use peg board as the back and use the little peg board hooks to hang barrel nuts on per barrel-nuts request...like barrel-nut said you should display your old nuts proudly LOL!!

This is my temporary solution, I call it a bucket of barrels, it's actually not that bad, it is very compact and I can keep adding to it, materials list : one 5 gallon paint bucket and 1" pvc pipe they come in 10' sections so you get 6 X 20" lengths out of 1 section, at least now I can start getting my barrels out of storage.

Nice! Has the added benefit of compelling you to fill all the empty tubes! I like it.
