    22-250

It's getting towards fall and I need to tune the 22-250 skills up. I didn't like the 748 for my .223 AI so I decided to pound it through the 22-250.I'm at 35 gr of 748 with a 53 gr V Max with good results.I've only used IMR 4064 in it up to this point.Anyone else got a pet load they would care to share ?What advantage is there to going to the22-250 AI ?I don't have 50 rounds through this rifle as the .223 was my favorite. I'm thinking I need to start using this since I have it and it is lighter than the bull barrel .223AI.Thanks in advance.

I like the varget in mine as well. 34 grains behind a 53 vmax worked great. 1/4" at 100.

36.5 grains varget pushing a 50 grain Vmax in a 1-14" barrel. 100 ' s of prairie dogs have went to the pasture in the sky with this load.

53 gr vmax with a 22-250 is an amazing combo, . sighted in 2" high at 100 yards its about 6" low at 400, point blank coyote round. and the 53"s have almost as good of a BC as a 69 gr smk.

As for AI, 22-250 increases case capacity by almost 10%.

I use my AI in a 20" barrel and it equals 22-250 velocitys out of a 24 or 26, and better case life less re-seizing.

Thanks for the responses.34.0 gr of IMR4064 with the 53 gr V Max is quite impressive but 34.0 gr of Varget also works nearly as well with a 53 gr V Max bullet. The 53gr with 35 gr of 748 is as good as I've seen the 748 powder perform...Three great loads to see how the cold weather effects the pressures. Varget runs mild at 34.0 gr but shoots so well that I didn't work up beyond it.

I like the 22-250 AI because the cases seem to need less trimming. The extra velocity is a nice bonus in a varmint rifle.

My "light" bullet load is 38grs of H4350 with 55gr Nosler BT's. It's a moderate velocity of 3,500fps but it shoots .5 MOA or better when I do my part. Would like to work up more but almost scared to since it shoots so consistent.

37.5 H380 with Sierra 52g MK rocks for me. Most of the 22-250's out there run with a 1-14 or 1-12 twist which really limits one to not much more than 55 grain pills. The AI does not do a whole lot for the 250 under these conditions other than to increase velocities to near Swift numbers. Where the AI chamber really shines is with a faster 1-8 or so twist, much heavier pills and slower burning powders that can utilize the additional case capacity. That being said, I will always recommend the AI chamber for anyone wanting to rebarrel or build a 22-250 and that reloads. The AI chamber will shoot standard 22-250 ammo nearly as accurate as AI ammo if there becomes an ammo pinch.

Actual target is about 1/2 this size and looks a lot better. 35.5 RL15, Lyman reloading manual COAL used. Diamond is 1/4" actual size.

My 1-12 FVSS shoots tiny groups with 36 grains of Varget under Sierra 1365 55 grain bullets and CCI 200 primers. So far I've killed ground hogs out to 416 yards with this load.
