    4895 User,s

    Looking for 4895 user,s:
Due to shortage of propellants that Im used to using, Im considering using 4895 in 308. (168gr--175grSMK)
Its available and at a farely good price (8lb).
Burn rate shows abit faster than what Im used to but it is what it is. I can adjust accordingly via load development and ladder test.
Need to hear from users though....what say you?

That use to be the powder loaded in the 7.62 LC Match ammo that is used shooting M14's and the M1A's. Is a very good powder to use, I think you will be happy with it. Now for cost I have seen it $150-170's.

Places to check are Graf-Son's, Widners, Mid South shooter supply, Nathezs. I'm sure that I missed a few, I hope that it helps.

    Merry Christmas

What powders were you using? Might want to check www.gunbot.net powders seem to be making a slow steady come back.

Im using imr 4895 in 30-06... 46.5gr=1/4" group, 165 spbt hornady .005 off...

I know 308/30-06 are different, and this load will not work because the difference in cases... But it is an indication that 30 cal and 4895 is viable...

If I do place an outside order off the net, then hazmat applies. That,ll put me right at about 2 bill,s which is what I can get it here locally.
I remember hearing talk of the 4895 being the powder of choice yrs past, but sure would like to hear it from present user,s.
As yrs pass, more propellants are develop,d and are "sometimes" the next best thing, then theres those times when you go back to square one and then realize you were fine with what you had.
Im sure theres tons of reloaders out there doing the same thing in finding other propellants to replace there powder of choice that of which came thru consumption of time and money for load development.

Just, please... do NOT use that charge in your 308... it is iirc 4 grains over max for your cartridge!!!

I also Use H4895 because I got a great deal on it in a keg... have had good results but need to tweak it a smidge... Also getting 3/8" groups out of my 223 savage with h4895.

    fully aware of it....thanks
the burn rate is considerable faster than what Im used to but thats ok by me......means I can use less and get more mileage out of each pound. Im always going towards the slower speed accuracy threshold as opposed to higher speeds. At my altitude and with the use of a 20 MOA base, sending them to distance is not problematic.

Don't take it the wrong way, i just want to make sure we are on the same page so as not to create any issues... Sometimes I read things too fast and run with it, and with powder charges it can get ugly quick, thats all. Especially with two very similar cartridges...

Enjoy and good luck, i was debating trading the 06 for 308 but the return would take way too long to justify... And if i am getting another rifle it will be 338lm!

I run IMR 4895 in every rifle I own and have not had any issues(223-7mm). I don't use the 168 or th3 175's but for 150 and down I use a load just below the book mid point.

Im getting close to running out of my 8lb jug of 4064. Bought that cause I couldnt find any varget or RL-15 that I was using extensively.
Love the results from 4064. Dont like metering it but it is what it is.
Im looking at IMR 4895 because its a fair price for an 8ld-er and I can pick it up locally at about the same price I can via the net.
Aquiring components in this part of Texas is a like highway robbery.
I frequently get the majority of my components from the Phoenix Az. area. Its almost always at least 15-20% cheaper.

My 308 loves IMR 4895 and speer match 168gr.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I use IMR4895 almost exclusively in most of my 308 loads...hard to beat it in my opinion.

    4895 User,s

I can send you the exact load tomorrow, but I have found IMR4895 to be a great powder for 308. Its my most accurate powder in 308. I started using it for the same reason you are considering it and I kept it going. I think its 42.5 gr for the 168gr Amax but my COAL is long.

I use IMR 4895 in my 308 for deer hunting. 150 GR Sierra Game King over 42.4 GR powder, Winchester WLR primer. This recipe yields .13” 3 shot 100 yd groups all day long out of my TikkaT3. In fact I use IMR 4895 in my 270 and30-06 rifles as well, and it yields like accuracy. Temperature consistency isvery good.
    Shoot straight & often!

308---42 gr. IMR 4895---168 SMK best load I've found to 300 yds, our longest range.
