Help me decide on Boyds Stock

Getting a new Boyd's Laminate for the Savage 111 .270. I kinda like the Forest camo but I also like the Nutmeg. I just can't decide between the Featherweight Thumbhole, Varmint Pro, and the Heritage.
The wife's side of the family is pitching in to get it for me but I have to order it (they don't know the first thing about firearms) and have it shipped to their house so they can wrap it and give it to me on Xmas. So what says the shooters? I have looked at lots of pics but if you happen to have any of those combinations I would love to see yours.

The Varmint PRO if you mostly bench shoot. The Heritage if it is for carry/hunting rifle. I've got a soft spot for the Forest Camo, but you can't go wrong with nutmeg. I have tried the thumbhole, but never found it to be to be light weight or to my liking with regard to comfort and fit.

I do shoot from the bench working loads but this is my hunting rifle as well.

I ordered the Heritage in Nutmeg for my Axis. I had to send it back as they sent me one built for a long action, and I ordered the short action. That said... I can hardly wait for the new one to get here. The first one they sent me was absolutely gorgeous. I opted for all the bells and whistles. I got the shiny finish, checkering, black plastic grip and end caps with white line spacers. Just like the fancy hunting rifles I used to lust after as a young one. That thing was beautiful. I am so crazy with impatience waiting for the correct one.

Awesome I am stoked to hear you liked it that much. I am getting a semi custom with the shinny finish and limbsaver pad. I think I am leaning toward the Heritage. How long was it from the time you ordered it to it getting to your door even though it wasn't the right action still gives me an idea how long for something that in not quite off the shelf and in the box.

I didn't pay attention, but it had to be around a week and a half.

Is your action staggerfeed or centerfeed?

Mine is center feed. From what I've been reading I think the whole Axis line is too.

Have you decided yet? I got my Boyd's stock in the other day. Fits nice, looks better, and is free floated all the way to the chamber. Won't get to the range until after New Years, but I'm sure it will feel better to shoot with.

It is sitting at my Mother-in-Laws house wrapped up killing me! That was the deal I pick it out and order it so it is correct, but I had to ship it to there house. I'll post pics as soon as I get it. I went Nutmeg, heritage, High gloss, and Pachmyer recoil pad. I seriously cannot wait. I usually have no problem waiting for presents even when I know what they are, but this one is killing me. The comp here blocks pics on these forums so i will have to check your pic out when I get home.

If it's killing you now... I can't wait for you to see my photo! I'm very happy with mine, though it is a bit darker than I'd like.

Man that thing is gorgeous it is a bit darker then I was thinking it would be, but I like a dark stock so I won't be disappointed at all if mine turns out to be that dark as well. I been sitting here in the shop separating .223 and 5.56 killing time I can't wait to get it on but I will have to wait even longer since I got hunt I am leaving to go on Friday morning for the weekend so it will have wait until Monday morning mount it up and start prepping to bed it. Hopefully I'll have ready for the hunting trip jan 7th. Gotta squeeze these last days out of the season. Way to long between hunting seasons!

Well Scooter you know that old saying: Misery loves company, but Happiness is pretty fond of it as well. be sure to post up a pic of your pepper stock. Which model stock and what rifle is it being mounted on.

I almost got pepper. Can't really tell from the crappy photos on the internet. They need better photos on their site.

Don't sweat it. Every laminate stock I've ordered, regardless of color, has looked better in person than in pictures.

I finally got around to mounting my boyds stock. I will say it was a perfect fit. Went together perfectly I am going to do the dowel rod and sand paper trick to open the barrel channel up just a bit. It passed the business card test for free floating but just barely it was a bit snug toward the base of the barrel. I will be bedding the action so it will be a good time to do that as well. I got some pics snapped of it mounted, but didn't have time to upload them before work. The barrel and action seem to be cut perfectly even in the channel. The stock is flat out gorgeous. I can't wait to take it to the range after I get the bedding job done. Now I just have to find the time to do that.

Gorgeous. I may just have to pull the ol' XP trigger on one, myself.

Finally got some time to snap some pics of the pepper stock...I really like it. Cant wait to get it put with a barreled action.

I snapped a couple different ones, I hope the lighting gives you all a pretty good idea of how it looks.

Guys, I have a long action with a heavy sporter barrel . It is a 24" barrel that tapers from 1.035" down to .710" at the muzzle. I want to get either the Classic or Heritage. Any idea which stock I might need to order to get the right barrel channel?
