Cool First Blood New Savage Rifle Build 6.5X300WSM

Well, it is deer season in Wisconsin. Day 2 of our nine day gun season, drew first blood. Build, savage 116 SS was new 300WSM that was converted to 6.5X300WSM. 1/8 twist The barrel came from scope eye also the vortex scope, was also from scope eye. Load was Nosler brass, WLR primer Powder was IMR 4831 52.1 Grains Nosler 120 Gr. balance tips coated using David Tubbs bornon kit, 3000FPS.

I watched this buck and doe come across two forties, she was leading him on, she stop he would nose her, they did this for about 15 min or so. Dialed scope eye's great scope that I purchased from him, I saw good antlers, said to myself this was a shooter buck. Then the doe with her super radar hearing stopped, looked in my general direction, and of course the buck stopped. The buck had his nose in the air smelling her, he was slightly quartering left, placed the cross hair on the left side of his right shoulder and squeezed the accutrigger. Boom! the shot broke, down he went grave yard dead. 145 yards and it was all over.

I did fined out one item, don't use the light skinned nosler bullets for whitetail, form these, wild kitties lol. I recoverd the bullet jacket, 42.9 grains was all that was left. It hit his spine in the base front shoulder, looked like someone threw a hand grenade in their. NO exit wound, lots of blood his nose.

I'm jealous. No hunting for me this year due to lumbar surgery #8 on 10/21, hopefully next year.

    Nice deer and nice shot.

Sweet! I love how my 25-300 WSM works with 110 grain Accubonds, no issue with bullets blowing up at 3400 FPS. Your 6.5 would be very similar with a lot of good bullet options, try the Accubonds or the Swift Sciroccos.

    Very nice deer.

I wanted so badly to try my 6-WSM on one last year but it just wasn't in the cards since no deer gave me a shot during the late rifle season. Now Iowa has eliminated their late rifle season and gone back to being a shotgun/pistol/ML state. Arrggghhh.

I am jealous to say the least.
