    6Br barrel length...26 or 28"?

Sorry for the excessive questions. What barrel length would you recommend the Medalist stock? Both would be in the varmint contour. I'd like to try the 28", but I'm not sure if it would be too nose heavy in the bags for this stock. I could always add some lead to the stock, if there is a recess in the butt, but I don't know if there is or not.

as long as i wasnt going to have lug it through the feild or something like that i see no harm in longer barrel might pick up a few fps

Just orderd the 28" varmint contour, 1:8, McGowen from Northand - What a nice guy.

I wanted a Shilen, but patience is not one of my virtues and he had the McGowen in stock.

Jim "is" a real nice guy to deal with. Just ordered 3 actions from him. He really knows his stuff.

Try a 28", if you don't like it, $50 makes it a 26". Barrel lenghtening is considerably higher.

I have a 28" 6br mcgowan from Jim, in a medalist stock and love it. I use it for bench and pdog work, no packing it thru the brush... Bill

IMO 28 is much too long, I would pick a 26 out of the choices. If it was my gun it would be a 24 inch barrel, after a few long discussions with Randy Robinett (BIB bullets),

And a few other people that are in the know, I am more than convinced that this is the ticket.

28 inch is supposed to be the optimum barrel lenght for a 6BR bench or prone rifle. This is accumulated info from reading and asking question's and getting answers.

Most F class shooters install 30 inch barrels on their 6BR rifles.

Dont know whats best, but my 28" Mcgowen 6br shoots pretty well. This is 5 @ 100 yds when I do my part. If Im off it still stays well under 1/2moa. It loves the Varget and 87gr vmax for varmint work. Havent even tried a match bullet in it yet.

So is that group of yours at 100 yards or 1000 yards? Or? It doesn't tell me much if you don't tell us the yardage.

I just ordered some 87g Vmax from Midway, they were cheap "blemished" bullets. I've got some blems from them before and some of them were slightly discolored, but other than that, they were perfect. I also have some 107 matchkings to try and plenty of Varget. Hopefully I will have everything put together by the end of next week. I can't get ahold of SSS for my trigger though, but they will be answering their phone again next Tuesday.

    .

    My 6BR and 7BR are 30-inches long.

Most of the bullets get all the way past the muzzle.

    I must thank Jim Briggs, McGowen and Savage for my 28" 6br... at first I had reservations..I had to take off a .1-.2moa 308 2wks b4 a shoot...I am glad I did...WOW what a hammer!!!
This barrel is a laser. Today 10 mph shift NE to SE at 705 and 725yards. 4 inch groups and many shots in the same hole, the 12 inch steel plate quickly went from soo cool the first few shots to not even a challenge when every shot sent gave the smack and swing. Hike through a fire swamp with ROUS's or I would have a pics. Thanks to 6mmbr and Jason Baney for schooling me...only class I look foreword to! Big smiles with micro groups!
