Special features on 99 308?

I've not seen these features before on a 99 in 308... Monte Carlo stock with fairly fancy walnut AND a raised cheek piece, fancy inlaid pistol grip cap with "gold" Savage Indian emblem, hood on front sight. I'm guessing the recoil pad is aftermarket?

Thanks. It looks new, and I've not seen such nice walnut on a 308 before. The CCH on the lever is beautiful. The serial number is C534XXX. What does this say about date of mfg, etc?

Are these special order items??? Most of the Savage 99's I've seen in 308 have been really plain, many with birch stocks.

If anyone can shed light on my rifle I'd really appreciate it.

It's a 1977 model 99CD and you got real lucky with whoever pulled the wood for that rifle, really nice.

I'll second that. I have a 99 with some real sweet wood but that whole rifle is more Art than rifle.

I'm afraid I'll treat it like art and baby it too much and shoot it too little. I feel like I need to pick up a nice "shooter" with some dings, scratches and overall "character."
