Welcome to the brotherhood of the barrel nut. Just read about the Resurection of the Redfield line of scopes. Looks like the glass and rifle are both winners. Redfield is now being made by Leupold. Just make sure the barrel stays free floating and you will be vey happy with that rifle. What ammo did you use, factory or handloads.

I now own on e in 7mm08 and 270. My son and I will shoot them. I just got lee dies for the 7/08. I have had RCBS 270 dies for many years. Anyone worked up any good loads with Varget and Hornedy 139 bullets for the 7/08? At $199.00 each these guns look like great deals. I found Weaver bases at WalMart. A old pal of mine used to provide security for Mrs. Weaver here after her husband who started Weaver Scopes passed away. She was a nice lady. I never met him but my uncle did and thought highly of him and his scopes. I remember reading as a young guy how they used black widow spider silk for cross hairs as it was stronger than steel.

I have two Weaver scopes, both well over 40 yrs old, a K-4 and a K-6. They still work just fine, no problems at all. I am convinced that for the average guy, fixed power scopes are the best deal. They have fewer internal parts to be damaged by recoil or overtightening the rings (the most common form of damage to a scope). Of course, my ever humble opinon.

Wrangler, I would be interested to hear how the 7-08 shoots with anything GREATER than 140 gr, i.e 145, 150 and up. Any plans to use those bullets ? I ask as the Savages now come with an 11.5:1 twist only. Thanks.

We put some SMK 150gr through my brother's. They didn't pattern well. The Nosler 120s with the ballistic tip group the best by far. If you want to go over 120gr with that slow of a twist rate the round will never stabolize. You really need a tighter twist to increase the bullet weight.

Northlander has some barrels with tighter twists for about 250 I believe.

    Good luck,
