1899 Date Confirmation & Front Sight Plate

I inherited my g-grandfather's Savage model 1899 30-30. It is a takedown with a 20" barrel but I do not find a letter code anywhere. The serial number, 240xxx, shows to be manufactured in 1922 if the Savage99 web site is reliable. Are there specific characteristics of the gun that can determine the letter code or any other info you can provide me about the gun? Is the 1922 date correct?

The gun is missing the plate on the front sight. The top of the integrated base is 5/16 long. I would eventually like to find an original replacement but suspect that will be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Until then, I plan to fabricate one but would like to know how tall the plate should be. I know I will have adjustment through the rear sight but would like to get close to begin with.

Can someone with the same sight/gun provide a measurement from the top of the base to the top of the sight plate?

    It's an 1899H.

Sorry can't help with heights on the sight as I don't own one but keep your eyes open on Ebay for a Lyman #26 or #32 blade sight marked MI, should be the correct one.
    Savage- "never say never".
