spirit level on axis

Hi guys, just want to ask when you are putting a scope on your axis, where do you put your spirit level on the rifle? I can't find any place to put mine. I am using the ones that came with a wheeler scope mounting kit.

Generally I level on the scope rail, but I tend to use one-piece rails.

If you believe your stock to be "true" and your rings to be "true", use a bipod and put a level on top of the scope rings bottom half (which should be mounted on the rifle at this point). I like the level app that I got on my iPhone, but any level will do. Now shim the bipod feet (or adjust the tilt if your model tilts) as necessary to obtain perfect level. Next (keep the shimming you just used) attach the scope and point the rifle in such a manner as you can clearly see the vertical edge of a building or plumb line (as long as you KNOW it is plumb) and line the vertical portion of the reticle such that the verticals are parallel to the plumb line (or vertical edge of a building). Tighten your rings to spec and re-check your work...

Thanks for the comments. I have no bipod atm, and my rest is a wobbly el cheapo walmart rest so I need to put a level somewhere. I might need to find a level that fits inbetween the scope and rail.

The you have on the outside needs to go on the inside where the bolt rides, drop the magazine if you need to.

Do you mean the one with a square magnet? I have already tried that, there is no way it would sit properly. Unless there is a technique to do it... thanks

The level with the magnet should fit into your chamber. Hopefully these will help!!

Funny thing though, is that i just found out the smaller level does not give the same reading if I rotate it 180 degrees, but this is for another topic,

That is one reason why I no longer use levels (or as little as possible). Spirit levels are great, but are only as accurate as the surfaces they are used on (and the smaller the surface, the easier it is to have some error). They are also only as accurate as their manufactured (which is what you are seeing). I don't trust scope turret caps to be a good surface for using a spirit level with respect to the actual reticle itself, and sometimes they are not even flat enough to even be a candidate for such.

But for a hunting rifle that isn't going to be held on a bipod, it's probably close enough...
