.25-06 axis

Hi guys new to the forum and have recently picked up two axis 2's. One is a .223 and the other is a .25-06. I've had the .223 for a couple weeks now and it is not very picky about what I shoot through it roughly 1 MOA or alittle better. I'm just wondering how many of u guys have one in .25-06 and what shells it likes. It will b used as a deer rifle with some target shooting thrown in.

My favorite deer caliber is the .25-06, but mine is a first generation Savage 110L. For ammo mine loves 100 grain Hornady Interlocks in handloads. Before I started loading my own, I usually reached for blue box Federal ammo. The Hornady Whitetail line would be a good place to look too.

I was thinking g the same idea. I've got like 3/4 a box of the hornady white tails from a h&r that didn't shoot good and I picked up a box of the federal fusions. I can't find the blue box federals around here. I've always had a fascination with this caliber and finally got one.

I have had more bang-flops with the .25-06 than with all other calibers combined. The deer usually just fall down right there.

It's hard on coyotes as well ........ LOL!

But my comparable rig is a Marlin (uses Savage style barrel mounting)

My Savage build was a Varmint SS 26" in that caliber and it would not settle down. When I took that barrel off for swapping to something else, I found out that one of the action screws was bottoming out before it tightened up.

Now, can you imagine a rifle that can manage to still be functional ......... with a loose action screw?

It was not stellar but I killed stuff with it!

No comment on the rifle but I've been shooting the 25-06 for over 40 years. As noted above I've found the 100gn bullets most effective for deer, almost always DRT. Mostly use Speer SP and Nosler Ballistic Tips, nothing exotic. In my experience the 117/120gn bullets penetrated too far before expanding but would likely be appropriate for elk or moose.
