Hello all!
I've been a hunter for years but my home state does not allow taking deer with rifles. After moving to Missouri and lugging a Mosin Nagant around the woods and into tree stands, I decided something lighter was in order. I didn't have the heart to sporterize war memorabilia and was instead gifted a Model 11. I am more than pleased with it. Not surprising since I love my Stevens 87b.
In a short time, this forum has been a great help in advancing my novice smithing skills and hopefully someday I can return the favor!

The old warhorses are great for cracking hickory nuts, driving fence posts, paddling boats etc., and certainly be careful not to drop one on your foot. The bayonets will let you knock high apples from the top of a tree or even make a handy spit for roasting meat in a pinch. They are good at a lot of stuff.
The 11 is definitely a big step up for hunting.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
