Went to range yesterday and had a great day. I was shooting factory hornady 129 SST ammo. velocity is listed at 2950, with this input into JBM says 2 MOA at 300 and 9.1 MOA at 500 with a 100 yrd zero. I am having to use a 2 MOA at 300 and 7 MOA at 500 with this in JBM my speed shows around 3300. is anybody else getting this kind of speed with this gun.this is 300 yard group

I never reached that in mine and neither has my buddy, both LRP 6.5 Creeds, and I leaned on mine real hard to see how fast it could go. I ran into hard bolt lift and was not close to 3300 fps. It is more likely just an error in the programming. I have been out shooting over a chrony, 2 actually, and then inputting that along with my other info into, Strelok basic, the purchased Strelok, and Shooter, only to have to play with velocity in all three to get my drops to match.
More shooting, less typing.
No way your at 3300 with that bullet it would be hard to do with my 6.5-06imp
Over optimistic velocity claims have been characteristic of both the 260 and the Creedmoor.
No one was claiming that velocity, he had to adjust the velocity in his ballistics calculator to 3300 fps to get the calculated drops to match his real world drops. This common with low end calculators.

By no means am I claiming to be getting 3300, just trying to figure out what it is. I will do some more shooting double checking my MOA at 2,3,4 and 500 yards maybe even 6 and 700 next time. Could it be that the rifle is just that flat? ive hunted all my life and im 42, but im new to long range shooting and ballistics so I still have a lot to learn.
Was not referencing his 3300fps reading and I do, believe it or not, understand what the problem is. Was referencing "is anybody else getting this kind of speed with this gun" anticipating someone coming along and saying "oh yeah mine does that all day long".
what else can cause a rifle to shoot flatter at the same speed using same bullet? I'm just trying to learn all the factors that go into long range shooting. sorry if I don't make sense, as im trying to grasp all this.
One of the best parts of the JBM website is you can take a given bullet at a given velocity and plug in different environmental factors and see the differences those factors make. For example when I put in the data for a particular load and calculate it at sea level there is a BIG difference between that and when I put in my elevation of 7000 feet. It's a great way to learn.
Yes double check your elevation, pressure and especially scope height. When helping people at the range the big one they miss is adjusting the standard 1.5" scope height to what it actually is. Generally they are closer to 1.8" especially with 50mm objective bells.

Basshawg, not sure what scope you are running, but I've had a few over the years where they where supposed to be 1/4 MOA per click yet in a actuality they were a tad more. To check it, You can get a solid 100 yd zero then dial up 10 MOA and see if its at the 10 inch mark above point of aim. It's apparently not uncommon. This might be worth looking at.

It's a vortex viper HST 6-24x50 with the VMR reticle. The reticle has 30 MOA with sub tension every 2 MOA. I'm just using reticle for now will try dialing when I shoot further. I really want to learn to use the reticle very well, before I start dialing. Taking it one step at a time. I will be hunting with this rifle and think the hash marks will be much quicker. Just so happens that my shooting bench at our camp is same road as my stand and my feeder is 500 yds. I have flags every 100yds all the way to 700, a little cleaning up and I will be able to shoot about 1100

What magnification setting were you using?
I was running on 18 which is what it supposed to be set to. The mirage was very bad, looking into the sun. Does this affect your sight a lot. I was able to stay on 18 but no way I could've gone any further.
A dancing target can throw you off. I would try it again and see if you get the same result. But none the less if is working run with it regardless.
It was blurry but I think I was consistent but will ahoot a lot more. Have 4 more weeks before our rifle season opens
