7mm Rem Mag Help

Hi All

I'm looking for some advice and perhaps a QuickLoad model. I'm trying to get my Nosler 160 accubond velocity up. Currently I'm getting 2748 out of a 24" barrel. Hell I'm getting 2800 out of my 20" 308 with a 150 Barnes.

Win Brass, Win LRP, IMR4350 59gr

I have H-4831 and Supreme-780 and may be able to get H1000 and IMR-7828

Any help is appreciated

Using 59gr of powder is not really taking advantage of your mag case capacity, you need some IMR7828 and be some where in the 65gr to 70gr range

7828ssc with 160 partitioners I am around 66.5gr which is max or slightly over.

4350 will get ya there but not at 59gr.

You might want to give RL25 a shot, they RL powders always seem to yield higher FPS.

Thanks for the tips guys. Powder is scarce as hens teeth up here. The RL series are unobtainable I'll check out 7828 tomorrow but I doubt it is the scc variety.

4350 will get ya there but not at 59gr.

160pt's @2950 ish 15' from muzzle.
175's @2860 but get better accuracy from 66gr with cheap 16-100 Remington PSP-CL bullets.

I was getting over 3100 FPS with 7828 and the 162s, with a 26" 10 twist Remage.

Yeah I think straight 7828 would fill the case nicely. ssc leaves a lot of air space.

Thanks Bill, I really have to get a copy of Quickload great information. Looks like as others have noted a slower powder seems to be the ticket. If I can't get 7828 I'll give the 780 a whirl it is a bit faster than 7828. I'll reserve the 4350 for my 243.

I have to admit that the gun shoots just under 0.5" 3 shot groups with factory 150 core-lokts @ 3030 but I'll be taking it to Africa and will sacrifice a bit of accuracy for bullet performance.

160pt's @2950 ish 15' from muzzle.
175's @2860 but get better accuracy from 66gr with cheap 16-100 Remington PSP-CL bullets.

I think from Bills numbers and from experience. You could go up to about 63gr load of 4350 without getting pressure signs and get some respectable speed.

I went last May and it was a blast. So addictive I'm off again next May. It really isn't that expensive South Africa the most reasonable and they speak english. I did a 10 animal 7 day cull hunt for $2950 everything food, lodging (nice cabin with a shower), booze, transport to, from the airport and hunting. That is 7 days hunting. Tips are appreciated (they work hard) are extra and airfare of course. I flew out of Atlanta, Do Not Fly out of JFK with a gun even if it is legal the Stasi are looking to throw you in jail. Atlanta is gun friendly and all set up for the Africa crowd.

We were pushing almost 3k out of a 24" using the 168VLDs with 69.5 grains of H1000.
Not a partition obviously but given the weight ratios involved I suspect a slow burning powder like h1000 or retumbo would serve you best to maximize velocities.

just back from the range and 66.2gr ( 65.7 book max) W-780 gets sub moa at 2900 slightly flat primers but they are soft Winchester, no real pressure signs.

Next up 7828 I managed to find a pound.

Nosler and Hodgdon both claim 64gr max at 3015 and 2868 we will see what I get next week.

My 26" CBI likes 63.1gr RL-19 with 168 Sierras a LOT! This was Sierra's "accuracy load" with a Savage 116 in Manual V . Shoots 3 shot groups in the .3's.

I haven't been in the right place at the.right time to get retumbo or H1000 yet. Though a lot of people suggest them.

Imr don't meter well but seems to have a predictable temp sensitivity and fairly wide accuracy node.

Well I wonder what Nosler is smoking to get 3008 out of 64gr IMR7828 because at 63 I got 2700 and the cases were smoked at 64.5 2803 and not even a flattened primer. By my back of the envelope calculation I will be close to your 66gr to squeak out 2900. so far it looks more promising for the W-780

Best Bullet I've used out of a Savage 7mm mag 24in barrel is the Hornady 162gr SST. Shot dime size groups at 100 yards.
