Build #2, medium range 308 on the cheap.

After having so much fun with my first build, a 6.5x55 with a 26" McGowen tube and Choate stock, I'm ready for build number two. My boss liked mine so much he wants me to build a duplicate except in 308 since he doesn't reload. It'll just be for medium range plinking from 400-800 yards so it doesn't need to be super precise.

Here's my last build for reference:

And here's the starting point for this build, a $215 (including tax) Stevens 200 in 243 win. The difference in this one is that it'll be build on the Stevens and use a Timney trigger instead of the modified accu-trigger on my build. The deciding factor was finding a Stevens for $200 when everyone was wanting $425-450 for a Savage donor gun.

I'll update as I go complete with plenty of pics and a running tally on cost.

    Have a great day,
    G

Nice start...sell the stock and the barrel and you just about have enough for a timney...

Upon dissassembly I found the stock to be an aftermarket one with aluminum bedding and a Decelerator pad. I'm not 100% certain of the brand, but I do know that it is not a factory Stevens stock. It has some heavy texture on it, kinda like the multi-color "webbing" spray, except it's all black.

Just as a note; the stock trigger group gave an unpleasant and heave pull of 6lbs, 4oz with about two feet of over-travel! (slight exaggeration possible, but the over-travel is ridiculous)

Probably a Hogue stock. $200 was a steal!

Oddly, the stock has no markings inside and out except the pachmayer decelerator on the buttpad, which is not removable. Either way, I'll clean it up and toss it on the classified section for cheap tomorrow.
