    Torque Specs

My barrel arrived today from Northland Shooter Supply. I got it put on and head spaced this evening. I tightened the lock nut down but want to torque it to proper spec. What is the proper torque for the barrel nut? Also, what is the proper torque for the action screws? This is on a 26" Criterion barrel in .260 Rem. Going in a Bell and Carlson Tactical Medalist stock.

I'm going off memory, but I think it's two wacks with a hammer. I have never seen a torque spec regarding the barrel nut.

Just saw a post saying that Savage recommended 70 feet pounds, no idea if it's true or not.

I think it depends on a few things like is the stock wood, plastic, bedded or pillar bedded. Could be any where from 30 inch pounds to 65 inch pounds. I would encourage you to search this forum for that info. Often the front screw will require more torque than the rear.

I used 35ft-lbs for my Shilen barrel, no issues at all with that spec.

For the action screws, with a stock such as yours having an aluminum block and/or pillars, 45-60 INCH-pounds is about right.

Here is a link that was posted on here a few days ago concerning action screw torque. I need to try this yet.
