    Wanting to convert a 111 7mm Mag

Hi all. I currently have an older 111 on layaway in 7mm Magnum. It has the blind mag and top bolt release. The sole purpose was for a donor action. Locally, these rifles are difficult to come by, so beggars can't be choosers. I'm not really partial to any particular caliber. I was just looking for a comprehensive list of calibers I can build on this action.

Sorry to be so vague, but with that action you can basically build anything from, a 204 to the largest magnums and some 50 cal non BMG.

I should have added that the gun will be used for an even mix of hunting and target shooting. I only have a 300 yard range close to me, but I don't want that to be the limit either. I'm also not opposed to changing the bolt face.

Thanks for the reply. I do reload and MOST components are fairly available locally.

Then you are all set for almost any Caliber you want, 6mm and 6.5mm variations I find are the most versatile.

I find myself drawn mostly to 6.5 variations. I love my Grendel AR.

You can pretty much built whatever you want with it. Depends on how much time you want to spend on it. (ie...if its a magnum you stay with then 15min on a barrel swap or if you want to change out bolt faces etc....things like that) Deans got ya pretty much covered...anything you want for the most part

That's kind of what I suspected. Maybe too many options is my problem. What would have to be done to utilize a short-action caliber?

Lets see, some of the guys here that have more experience building than me can probably add to this, but if you go with a standard bolt face cartridge (ie...243,308, 7mm08 etc) I think you would need to change the bolt face for sure and maybe the firing pin....depending on the year your rifle was made (I don't have any experience with part so someone else will have to chime in). The mag box may need changed too, to handle the case diameter difference, if I was at home I could tell for sure. Most of the SA cartridges will be just fine in a long action provided you make those couple of changes. If ya like 6.5s you could go 264 win mag and change nothing but the barrel :)
Hope I didnt make muddy water even worse lol

Why change caliber? 7MM is a great round. It has won 1000YD matches at Camp Perry and the Secret Service used it as a counter sniper round
( good enough recommendation for me). Put a match grade barrel on it and you've got yourself a true long range capable rifle.

264 Win Mag since you already have the Brass, there just one full length resize away, and the 6.5 WSM & 6.5 RUM are viable options I like them all.

The thought crossed my mind. I've been intrigued by it since it was announced. Then I saw the cost and availability of brass and ammo.

Funny you should mention the .264 Win Mag. I was discussing that with my buddy last night. He just acquired a 6.5CM package rifle this past weekend. We split the cost of a lot of components and supplies. I just ordered an action wrench, so I've got the tools. I'm also considering the 6.5/284. Anybody have experience with BHW barrels for the Savage? My Grendel barrel on my AR came from them and I'm highly satisfied with it, just no experience with their other barrels.
