Hello from Minnesota

My name is Jake, but since I was a young lad (nearly) everyone has called me Buck. From an early age I was accustomed to firearms, and the annual pilgrimage to the great forests of northern MN. Thankfully I have a wonderful father who instilled in me the desire and enjoyment of hunting and fishing. Over the years my hunting has more or less remained the same, but recently I have given more of myself to the annual trip up north. Planning and prep seems to start earlier and earlier each year, and the pull of the north stronger as well.

This year I am blessed to be bringing my son up north with me for his first firearms season, and I think I'm more excited than he is (tried a few sits last year with our bows, but he doesn't like waiting for the deer).

Just recently I expanded my small collection of firearms with a new (to me) Axis .243 equipped with a Nikon Coyote special 4-12x40 BDC scope. Before this rifle, my father had given me a model 110 30.06 with a Simmons 3-9x40. The .06 has always been the Stanley cup of calibers in my mind, this is mostly due to the tales I heard as a boy from the guys my father hunted with. Nothing better than hearing 30+ year deer camp veterans regale tales of the ole thirty-aught-six knockin 'em down at 400 yards! The reason for getting the .243 was to branch out and test my prowess with something unfamiliar to me.

I also have a Model 94 30-30, 12gauge, 22lr, and a few 9mm pistols in my humble collection but the Savages' have impressed me the most with their reliability and good out of the box accuracy (my opinion from my experiences).
