New .260 Rem - Savage Gun porn

Just finished this new Savage/Stevens .260 Remington build. Just put the first 50 rounds through it to find a load and get it sighted in. She's shooting really well right away with a 0.26 MOA (actually had 2 groups like that on the same load).

    Thought y'all would enjoy it...

Action: Stevens (Blued) - new trigger (14oz), fluted bolt body, lapped, bolt lift kit, reset Firing Pin protrusion (0.038), custom extended bolt handle
Barrel: Criterion 28″ – Stainless Match – Small Shank – Bull 1:8 twist with SSS competition recoil lug and NSS competition barrel nut.
Stock: HS Precision 3-hole target (for Savage) + Bobby Hart LRT (not shown) which will be pillar and Devcon bedded to the action ASAP.
Scope/Mounts: Sightron 10-50x 60mm LRTD 1/8 moa on Burris Trumount bases and Signature rings (30mm) using +- 10 inserts for longer elevation adj.

    Here are some pix (porn):

Very nice! I have the same stock (Model 12 LRP) and I find my rifle to be quite front-heavy. How is the balance of that 28" barrel?

As you would expect, it is VERY front heavy. Unless you are adding a significant amount of weight to the butt of the stock, balance is never going to be "good". But on a bench or off a bipod, I don't see that being an issue (not for me anyway)...

Balance has never been an issue with me either, except the one time I put the rifle in a Lead Sled and it almost tipped forward to the point of falling out.

Here are some pics of the Bobby Hart.... (not yet bedded - just started with the prep work and thought I'd just get this in before I get too far along).

Great looking rifle- and great shooting!

Will be very interested in what you think of the Bobby Hart stock.

A review will follow... at this point, I'd say there are some things that were not so great given the price I paid and assuming I wasn't going to bed this build. However, I do give the stock many good marks as well. I know in the end it will work out like I want - just a matter of how much work I'll have to put into it...

That makes sense. I'm considering building a bench/practical rifle off of a PTA and have been looking at stocks. I'm looking for something that shoots well off a bench but can be used from a bipod from time to time. I've tried a Stockade Prairie Dog Tactical and it was ok. Don't really go for the "tactical" stuff so I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on the Hart. Thanks for the updates!

Sure... but - as is common sense - you develop your own loads and work up watching for signs of over-pressure. Now for the load data...

COAL: 2.875" Lapua Brass CCI BR4 primers SMK 142gr bullets 41.0gr RL-17 Neck sized using Redding bushing die: .292 TiNi (no turn necks)

    Avg. MV: 2821 fps
