Welcome to the site
Hi Folks, New guy here, my name is Ray. Anyway I went to a gun show a few weeks ago and picked up a beautiful Savage 99. I assume it would be called a takedown version, as it has two barrels, one in .22 HP and one in .30 30. The gun and both barrels are absolutely immaculate with no scratches in the wood and perfect metal every where. I have not fired it yet, but plan to soon. I have heard that some Savages are not safe to fire, and wondered if anyone on the forum could tell me if this gun it is safe. Serial # is 285085, Great forum, and thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome. Get it checked over by a local smith to see if it's a shooter. Hard to give an answer to your question without putting hands on it.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
Welcome.
We have a section devoted Savage 99's. Post you inquiries there and we would love to see some pictures of it.
