    110 scope base screw lengths

    Good evening,

Just received my Savage 110 LA flat back barreled receiver from HDC after being cerakoted on OD green. It looks great but I have a question. I have two different scope base mount screw lengths. It looks like the longer ones belong in the rear with the shorter screws up front. Anyone care to share their expertise which will save me time and aggravation?

    Thanks

Congratulations you guessed correctly. If using the long screws in the front base mount holes its likely they'll bottom out before securely anchoring the base.

Even the short ones can be too long in the front. I always snug the front screw first to check that it isn't too short. It it passes, I'll install the rest. Otherwise, I'll shorten both short screws enough to prevent bottoming in the front hole.

I check they're length using a simple depth gauge.

The body bottoms on the shoulder in the mount, the rod bottoms out on the barrel threads or on your pinky stuck inside the receiver then compare the screw length to the rod protrusion.

But, you don't need fancy gadget like that, a small rod or screw and a O ring will accomplish the same thing.
