I don't know what Savage recommends, but many people report Rem Accu-tips are good in them. I have heard mixed results with the Hornady SST, but the one 220 in our hunting group liked 'em. My buddy's 212 really liked the Lightfield Slugs.
What does Savage reccomend? I've heard there are 3 they reccomend, but can't find consistent info. I know remington accu-tip 3" is one. Thanks for any help.

Try a bunch of them. Might be one that really shines and several that are good enough. Mine happens to prefer the 2-3/4" Remington Acu tips

I have a box of sst already, so I'll give those a shot. My next two will be 3" accu-tips and 3" trophy coppers...hopefully one of those net me sub 1.5" groups @ 100
In my personal experience with slug guns in general. I have had better luck with 2 3/4" loads for accuracy. I have built several slug guns so far and all have preferred 2 3/4". Might just be the lighter recoil of the shorter shell agrees with me better and lets me control the shotgun better, I dunno.

Mine liked the copper solids the best but at $4.50 a shot started looking for something else. Out of five different brands Federal foster style and lightfeild sabots shot the best at about 1 1/4 inches at 100, all off a bench rest setup, 2 3/4 inch. If I remember correctly the book said Winchester 3" sabots.
