Got a used 112 single shot in 220 Swift this weekend

This gun looks almost new but puzzles me in a couple of ways. I guess it is a 112FV? I have compared it to my old 112FV in .223 and there seem to be several differences. Is this an odd ball? I don't have any idea how old it may really be.

The bolt doesn't say Savage but the serial number does match.
The bolt handle is smooth all over.
The recoil lug is real thin. It is about .150, my old 112 .223 has a recoil lug that is about .200.
It has the old style trigger that was really hard to pull, I fixed that already.
The black synthetic stock is skinnier and more rounded but it has the 2 studs in the forearm. The stock seems to be a harder plastic than the .223.
This stock doesn't say Savage anywhere inside or out.

I am anxious to get a scope on it to see what it will do.

You do know you are required to post a range report and pics ASAP? If you didnt know, now you do.

Should be a model 112FV-S (s for single shot). This is a long action? (5 inch screw spacing on the action)

Is there a small step in the barrel just in front of the barrel nut? If so, this is a large shank, long action, single shot rifle. I have one in 223.

    Try contacting Mad Dog here

He may be able to help you IF you provide the serial no.

    Hi,

There is no step in the barrel. It is a long action.

I hope to have a range report in a couple days.

You know you cannot keep it.

It has to be put up for sale.

I didn't think anybody else liked the 220 Swift anymore....then I did a couple of searchs on the forum and found otherwise.

I had a heavy barreled Remington in 220 Swift a few years ago. It shot pretty good but when I sold it in a moment of weakness I told the buyer, "It shoots pretty good, but it ain't no Savage". He didn't understand. ;D

There is ignorance and then again there is willful ignorance. The first afflicts all of mankind. The second is another matter all-together. ::)

Did anyone notice that it didnt take Hammer very long to chime in on this one? He definately is out to corner the market on .220 Swifts. Do not under any circumstances talk to him, or let him know where you live. If you have a carry permit, use it at all times. Security measures are recommended.

I'm sorry, I don't think Hammer would want this one. All I had available for testing were some handloads I made up a couple years ago for the Swift I had. I was happy to find they fit this gun OK.

All loads are using RP brass and WLR primers and Varget.

38gr and Sierra 52 bthp was over an inch.
37gr and Sierra 52 bthp was a 4 into 3/8 (bug hole) and a flyer to make it 1/2 an inch.
38.7 and 50gr Dogtown just over 1/2 inch.
36.8 and generic 55sp (another bug hole) about 3/8. (shocker, I wish I knew what these were. I bought 500 on sale somewhere a couple years back and the box isn't marked)

It seems to open up a bit with higher pressure loads. There were a couple other loads that were over an inch. I think this really has potential. If my eyes were better and some work on my technique would help too. It was 55 degrees with light gusts of wind from right to left.

    .

You need to offer it to the open-minded public.

There are people who will never otherwise enjoy a Swift.

I think this is a good start, the target was at 115 yards:
