    Picatinny Rail Bedding

I have a Savage 10BA. The one piece Picatinny rail is large with two side rails, a top rail and a forward (NV mount) rail. It attaches to the receiver with four #6-48 Weaver oval head screws. How important is it for the rail to be bedded to the receiver?

Tighten the front 2 screws down then look under the back of the rail. If you can see any gap it needs to be bedded.

I've been doing it on all of mine even 2pc bases. Just not something I want to have any doubt about. I know there are several methods but I just squirt some blue loctite on and torque em down wipe off the excess.

I would't waste my time bedding it, I'd be worried about shearing the screws. That rail is very heavy to start with, and by the time you add a scope you have a lot of dead weight which is held in place by them itty-bitty #6 screws. If you really don't need the extra rails, I'd go with something basic as a simple one piece rail. If you really must have all the bells and whistles, I would open the screw up to 8-40's and pin the rail to the receiver to take the shear stress off the screws.

I already have the 8-40 screws. If I have a problem was was going to drill and tap the holes to the larger size. Thanks for the advise.
