Buy a used Leupold Vari-x II or VX-II. A pawnshop will have one for under 300 bucks. Heck, I've even seen fixed 6x Leupolds for 150. Good luck

Over 50 posts and nobody has suggested making sure the tang is also floated?

Make sure the rear tang is not in contact with the stock.

All of the components of a Redfield scope are made in China and designed and assembled in the USA.

You might want to check your ring alignment. If you are going thru scopes on a 308 then i would be looking for the cause. Cheap scopes maybe but better money is betting on misaligned rings. Properly lapped rings should go a long way towards solving the scope problem IF everything else is tight and there are no other issues with the rifle.

That's what I was thinking. Cheap unlapped rings, or a warped scope base, or two piece scope base misaligned.

Warped tubes are bad, and you can have rings that barely make contact.
