    What size Bipod

I've never shot with a bipod before and am now considering one for hunting purposes. My sole purpose for the bipod will be prone shooting while hunting. I'm debating between a 6-9" and a 9-13". In your experience, what is the proper height bipod for prone hunting, and why?

I have never been able to hunt from the prone position due to the fact tall grass and brush always blocks my view. I have considered hunting from the roof of our camp, though. I suppose if you are in the desert or something like that it would work out okay. If you do, you will need the shorter bipod b/c you are laying close to the ground.

I guess I should clarify. I live in Utah and hunt Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho regularly. Thus I typically hunt mid to high elevation mountainous desert. I always try to go prone if at all possible when hunting. In the past I have always just laid over my pack. I would estimate that approximately 75% of my hunting shots are taken from the prone position.

Get the one that swivels and get a handle for the knob that tightens /loosens it.

What type of stock are you shooting from? I have a 110ba that has the aluminum stock and the 9-13 is perfect I also have a 260 in a bell carlson stock and the 9-13 is to tall I had to go with the 6-9 on the B&C.

I have never hunted with a bipod but for long range prone target shooting the 9-13 inch bipod was very good. I have found for bench shooting the 6-9 is much more practical.

I concur, the 9-13" is best for prone shooting. The shorter 6-9" is better suited for shooting off a bench or the hood of a vehicle. For tall grass/brush situations you're really better off shooting from the sitting position with a good set of shooting stix.

As long as you can see and shoot over the local ground cover, lower is better(more stability body-wise). However I use a taller Harris just for personal comfort.

I am in Idaho. I use the 9-13 for prone at the range, the nice low grass range.
For hunting, I drop the 9-13 like a bad habit and switch to the 12-27. Barely low enough for prone in the grass and still long enough to take a sitting shot at full extension..
I don't know exactly what your doing but if your hunting either canyons or out in the sage, I would bet you will need the height. I shoot 90% of my hunting shots from prone because I can, but with my "range" bipod it would be barely enough for the best case scenario at full extension and too low most the time.
You can always dig if 12" is too high but if 13" is too low you are out of luck.

P.S. 6-9" is best left on a bench.....................
