I know this may sound "silly" but it dosen't matter. No use telling me that a 6mm whatever is the most accurate round ever and won 200,000 matches, etc. I love the little 250 round and want to get a target rifle in 250 made up. Has or does anyone now shoot the 250. If so, what twist, bullet combo have you used ? Any other info would be helpful too ( powder combo etc ).
Built for coyotes but then started using for 100 yard BR. Shoots the 100gr sierras the best with the 95 sierras a close second. I use IMR4895 for everything and cci large rifle primers. This one only has a 18" barrel and sits in a Stocky's stock. Stevems 200 LA with a SSS trigger,10 twist Douglas barrel.

Toughest part is getting a match quality bullet....Berger or SMK is about it. I shoot a 25-223 mostly with SMK's or 85gr Nosler Ballistic tips. It shoots little tiny groups and I have killed p-dogs over 900 yards with it.....I wish the 25 calibers were more popular because I sure love them.

The 250 is a favorite of mine. A 10 twist is a must and the 115 berger is by far the best bullet going in 25 cal. I have a few with 24" sporter barrels that really love IMR4064 and Reloader 17. I'm getting 2800+ with the 115s and it kills deer like lightning.
Just made a good buy today. Got a new Savage model 14 in 250 from the custom shop. Turns out its not what the origional buyer wanted. The gun has a matt finish, custom stock, 22" barrel. The gun was not shot yet but it is now! I got it for my wife and she loves it. We are "breaking it in now. Shot 10 reloads today, cleaning between each shot, ( when I say we I got 1 shot !! ). We are very happy with it.
The .250 Savage can be an awesome short to mid range target round. The only draw back is not mush available in match bullets but if you make the Nosler Ballistic Tips or something similar group well then you are go to go.
A lot of target shooters are using the 6/250 which is a 250 Savage necked down to 6mm. The body taper on the 250 allows it feed easier from magazines.
check with Randy Robinette of BIB bullets I believe he makes match grade 25 cal. bullets
I tried the Sierra 100 gr hpbt and so far they look good about a 1/2" group at 100 yds. I got 1 box. Went for more but sold out so I got on the internet at the factory site "sold out"!! I ordered 2 boxes of 75 gr ( thats all they had thats not sold out ). Anyway they shot into 1/2" also - ??? why??, 1 in 10 twist rifle. But who cares, I ordered 2 more boxes and will try different loads with the 75's. I still have the rest of the 100's and later will work on them.
Why are Sierra bullets "sold out", even in the stores around here. Whats up??

I just posted in a handgun forum about the .250 - trouble is, I was shooting my rifle! What I found is fantastic. I had tried many powders with the .250 and 3031 was the best with 1/2" groups and 100gr HPBT's but I was not happy. I read a lot about BLC-2 sp I tried it and WOW!! The 75gr Sierras shot touching each other ( 5 shots, 100yds ), 87gr shot into a nickle and the 100's shot into a nickle. As far as left and right goes they shot about the same and the 100's are only an inch lower than the 75's. The load is 38grs on the 75gr bullets, 36 grs on the 87gr bullets and 35grs on the 100gr bullets - all Sierra's. I tried some 100gr HPBT and they shot poorly 1 1/2" but thats ok, gives me something to do this winter. I didn't get to shoot my wifes .250 but it shot with mine with the 3031 powder. I'll get to it later!
Some of my best groups have come with 3031 but it is terribly temp sensitive.
I thought I had something with 3031 ( 1/2" groups ) but it was inconsistant. BLC2 is great, i'm going to load all my stuff with that powder. About 500 or more rounds, have about 350 75grs and 300 87grs bullets, If I find any more brass I have 2 boxes of 100gr spbt's.
I started a 250 build several years ago putting a 22 inch, 1:9 twist Shilen chrome moly sporter barrel on a Stevens 200. During initial shooting I found a load with 100 gr. Nosler BT bullets and IMR4895 that shot around .5 in group with IMR4895. The project got pushed to the back burner because I finally realized it was impossible to meet my weight goal and stay within my budget. At the same time bullets and decent quality brass became unobtainable. I have shot a few 22-250 cases necked up and I think that will be the solution to the poor quality issues I found with Rem and Win 250 brass. When I get back to the project I'll be taking a good look at the 100 BT with IMR4895.
You can neck up 22-250 brass in a pinch. Try JERRYS OUTDOOR SUPPLY as they have some stuff that is hard to get, very nice people too. www.jerrysreloading.com

Inre: .250 Savage had I one before a 6mm or .243 I'd of been happy with it for good. I reloaded the 6mm with IMR 4350 using 48 grs of powder compressed and maximun out of a 70
s Sierra Bullets manual.
In retrospect I have returned from all the .24s to the .250 Savage and if more range is needed I think 200 yards is my range anyway.
