6.5x284 LOng range hunter rebarreled to a 6.5 Creedmoor?

I found a new Long Range Hunter in a 6.5x284 for cheap locally. I was wondering if this could be reballed to a 6.5 creedmoor without any other modifications? I know the bullets are a lot longer in a 6.5x284 and am wondering if they will feed well since most 6.5 creedmoor use short actions and this is a long action.

it will feed and function just fine. Can I ask why you want to step down in performance? If I were you I would go ahead and wear the 6.5-284 barrel out before replacing it.

    What he said.
Shoot the 6.5-284 for a while and your desire for a Creedmoor might just disappear.

I'm not sure I'm even going to buy the gun yet. The ammo is expensive for the 6.5x284 and I don't reload yet. I'm looking to build a 6.5 creedmoor and having a hard time finding an action to build on for reasonable. Thought the long range hunter may be an option for the build since it already has a decent stock and trigger. All's it needs is the new barrel.

I would save the $300 plus its going to cost for a new barrel and buy a reloading kit. Roll your own and be very happy with the 6.5-284.

    Amen again!
The 6.5-284 is faster, flatter and I'd presume somewhat easier to find.
A decent reloading setup would provide benefits for all of your present and future reloading needs not to mention being enjoyable.

That is the best answer you are gonna get. Buy the gun, start reloading.
    More shooting, less typing.

I have to agree with the other 6.5-284 supporters - spend that barrel money on reloading equipment and get an enjoyable, rewarding hobby as a bonus.

I recently bought my first Savage, a Model 12BVSS in 6.5-284 Norma and while I'm still in the handload development stages and have only been able to try 12 different recipes given the cold, windy weather we're having lately, I do have one load that went into one ragged hole at 100 yards. It's an awesome cartridge!
