Finally got to shoot my new rifle...

Its a Savage 10FP .308 caliber with threaded and fluted 5R barrel; and a Vortex Viper PST scope mounted with Seekins 20MOA base and Precision Matched rings:

I just did the initial sight-in at 100 yards using off-the-shelf 168 grain SMK ammo:

That was 10 shots with a thorough cool down between each. I know the groups could be a little better, but that's on me....the rifle for its part is a shooter. Next up is a muzzle brake and a camo paint job.

With a bit more fine tuning that rifle may be a shooter.

    I absolutley love mine.
I dont know if its identical to yours though.
    If its a 24" 5R 1-11.25 twist?....then its identical to mine.
    Is that an HS stock?

Man I wish I would have just sucked it up and bought one of these instead of trying to build up a shooter. Very nice group!

Well Ill be. I finally meet another 5R 11.25 shooter.
I probably have close to 1K worth of rounds thru mine and its still suprises me.
On a whim, I loaded up some simple Hornady 150gr FMJ,s using RL-15 and quickly found its potential. I decided on 150SMK,s and RL-15 and found myself shuving humble pie down nay sayers throats. I havent done a dam thing to the rig other than a Weaver 20 Moa base and $149.99 BSA 6x24x44 Tactical scope.
Im smacking steels from 200 out to 1k with that rig.
Judging by the patterns your getting?...you can easily send em out to 1K
Cant wait to see it finished.
I gaurantee you,ll start turning heads when you start sending them out to distance and hitting your objectives consistantly.
Congrates on a great rifle dude.
Your gonna love it Im here to tell you.

    Bennie Colley (spell ck) brk.
Reduces felt recoil nicely but more importantly really does well with muzzle climb. It holds steady enuff for me to see hits/miss,s providing I have good body to rifle alignment.
Once you start rolling your own and work on a consistant/accurate load, you,ll really be impressed with your new rifle
    Ya dun good!
Ive tried heavier pills but it didnt do as well.
Once I hit paydirt with the 150,s I stopped load development.
From what I understand, the barrel is military specs and was actually designed for heavier 175,s.
I may start up ladder tests again using 175s and 4064 next summer but for now, Im shooting what Ive got loaded.
    Enjoy your new toy!.............

This is a load I worked on yrs back using 150smks and Varget for this rifle.
coudlnt find Varget anymore so I went the way of RL-15.
    5 shot pattern at 100

Reloder 15 works real well in my .308's, and I also get tighter, more consistent group's with lighter bullets 150-168 and my barrels are all 10 twister's. I get ok results with 178 A max's, but still have to try 190's and up. You've got a good one SniperGoat!

This looks like the rifle I just picked up. I purchased a 5R 11.25 twist 24" threaded barrel.
I will put a Primary Arms 4-14X44 scope on top and add the Harris bi pod. Weaver rail and rings.
May put a brake but most likely a suppressor. It is legal to hunt with suppressors in South Carolina.

I bought it from my local gunshop. $550.00. Savage Model 10 FCP 5R 11.25 twist and threaded barrel. They supposedly had ordered it from
Buds. I saw them on their site for $740 cash.

Very nice rifles. I have the same stick, but apparently didn't get the same deal as you did. Although the I am very happy with the price to quality ratio. Don't know how to post pics, but my first day at the range I was able to wring out .33 moa at 200. Can't wait till the barrel shoots in.

You gotta love 'em Savages! I too have a JP Enterprise Beenie Cooley MB on my .270 AI and very impressed with it.

Below is a video fire-forming Win brass to .270 AI with 57.5gr H4831SC, CCIBR2, 175gr Matrix VLD, 2919 FPS. Supported by front bag only, forgot the rear bag. :)

That is one sweet shooter right there. It looks great with the HS Precision stock too. If you want a brake that really works the original JP Ent tank brake does the best job this side of the bennie cooley brake which also works well in itself. I second the notion, who made the barrel?
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!

Mine is a factory Savage barrel as far as I know, unless they had it done somewhere.
