Tactical rifle set up help needed.

I would like to set up a tactical bolt action rifle. I could be 243,308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. If I were to by a model 10 in 308 at a good price say a Model 10P with a 16" barrel with muzzle brake.
Can I use mag's with it?
It has a 5 round detachable mag.

Could I change barrels to make it a 6.5 Creedmoor in the future. (or another 308 barrel).

I would like to have a rifle in either 243,308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. with detachable mag's, Good stock, and good barrel to shoot out to 600 yds.
There seem to be plenty of Savage rifles available on Gun Broker. It is just figuring out what to buy to make what I want.
    Any advise would help.

    Thanks
    Harry

When you say a "tactical" set-up, what does that mean to you?

No Offence Harry but when Mattri asked your definition of Tactical you kind of just repeated your first post haha. Some people use tactical loosely, whether is be aesthetics or legitimate reasons.

Based off of your 2nd pic, you'll have to find a stock that you like to upgrade to later. For those types of mags, you will have to go with aftermarket bottom metal like CDI or PT&G and have the new stock inlet for it (some stocks can be bought pre-inlet for those bottom metals). The barrel and the brake as pictured can be built by just about reputable barrel maker (I personally like Apache Gunworks for all my barrels) and the tactical style handles can be bought from several sources.

As to a model to build into such a beast in any of the chamberings you mention, any of the Savage short action models in a 308 based cartridge will accommodate, but I would stick with models that have the older side bolt release (such as the Hog Hunter Model) rather than the newer trigger guard mounted bolt release, because there are more stock options for that style setup and some of the aftermarket bottom metals don't work with the TG release.

The Hog Hunter would actually be a good place to start since it already has a threaded barrel in 308 that has a heavier contour.

That looks to be a model 10 fcp in a manners stock with a USO sitting on top. The mags are made by Accuracy International or Accurate Mag, bottom metals for those mags are made by a few different manufacturers. Triad Tactical stock pack.. Agree, a hoghunter would be a good base to work off of. There is some serious coin in your picture.

I agree 100% with Boots and Justdave. Just to clarify, The Hog Hunter has the top (or side) bolt release he recommends. I absolutely agree. (when I first read his post, I thought he was saying the Hog Hunter has the bolt release within the trigger guard. He doesn't mean to say that.) The Hog Hunter is an example of the older models which he prefers.

Thanks for the clarification there foxx, I edited my post to correct that as I could see how it could be taken either way before.

justdave, I can't agree with your synopsis on it being a 10FCP as from my screen here that pictured rifle sure looks like a Remmy to me.

Agreed, the barrel caught my eye first, looks like my 10 fcp sr at a glance. It's a remmy or similar, maybe Badger or similar bottom metal.
