    Fox B

So, I have been eyeing the Fox Bs for quite a while and after a couple beers, I decided I had to have one for dove season. I don't have it in but I think it's a later one without the case hardening (which I've read in a couple posts below is less desirable). If the finish is that banged up, I can get it reblued but I plan on using it in the field a lot and have wanted a tough sxs for quite a while. I shoot my other o/u's and my pumps usually. I ended up pulling the trigger on a 30" 12 gauge with mod and full chokes and a single
Trigger that seems to be in good shape but it's not in yet. I paid $275 for it. Thoughts?

Seen em for around the $250 to $325 range sounds like you did alright, post some pics, as to the case hard reciever you can do the oil blue or fire blue method and no one will be able to tell that its not true case hard color see the demos on youtube its easy and looks great just did my model 235 SxS this way.

I hope you've been enjoying your "new" Fox-B. I bought an early 60's Fox-B last year & have done quite a bit of trap-shooting with it. Still haven't done any hunting with it, but have wondered how heavy it would feel carrying it a few hours in the field(compared to my pumps). I still can't wait to pull it out & shoot it next time, though.

IIRC a single trigger would make it a BST. B's were double trigger/no ejectors, BST's were single trigger/no ejectors, and BSE's were single trigger/with ejectors. As for the case-colored receivers being less desirable, I think you've got that one backwards. The black enamel finish they used on the later models doesn't hold a candle to case-coloring in most peoples opinion.

It is a BSE Jim, and I meant that the crappy black finish on it was less desirable. I'm having problems with the right side ejector. I've stripped everything down and sanded some burrs and stuff with 2000 grit sandpaper and it's improved but still hangs up about 20% of the time. I'm trying to figure it out and find a replacement ejector.

Fox B = Double triggers, no ejectors
Fox BE = Same as Fox B but with automatic ejectors.
Fox B-ST = single trigger, no ejectors
Fox B-SE = single trigger, automatic ejectors
Fox B-DE = single trigger, no ejectors
Stevens 311 = Double triggers, no ejectors
Stevens 311R = Double triggers, no ejectors, 18.5" barrels
Savage 550 = automatic selective ejectors, single trigger, top-tang safety.

Starting in 1979 Savage stopped specifying what the action finish was in their specifications table so I had to go off the photo's in the catalog. In 1985 it appears they stopped case hardening the actions and went back to a black enamel finish.
