See if you can find a date code on it somewhere, it will be a small oval with a number and a letter inside of it.
I have a Savage 340 30/30 Bolt Action and for what I have read that if there is no serial number it will be pre-68. Mine does not have any letter designation after the Mod 340 and I have taken the action out of the stock and have found no sign of a serial number.
Question is seeing there is no serial numbers are there any markings that one could get the DOB in this case?
Thanks for any help here....
Welcome to my home.....FYI..... That locked door you kicked down was for your protection.... not mine!!

Savage- "never say never".
Took the action out of the stock and did not find any hint of a serial number or any other stampings on the action.
It does have a side mount scope on it, and I called myself looking there when I had the mount off but did not remember seeing any markings there.
I will have to pull the mount off again and take a look there again...

If there are no markings on it anywhere then it was made before 1949.
It's an old one that's for sure.

WOW that old? I was under the impression they did not start making them until the mid to late 50's...Good to know.
I think I'm going to call Savage and see if they can shed some light on this baby!
Thanks again Mad Gog!
