    284 win model M

    Hello,
Thoughts on a Model 99 M in 284 Winchester, rifle is around 85% or better, good wood, no cracks, nice blueing, rifle is a co workers who is thinking about selling some of his toys..
I guess I was wondering if the chambering makes this something to grab onto ?
Have 4 - 300's and a clip 308, really don't need another one, but these darn things make me goofy.
I reload, so ammo won't be a big deal.
    Thanks

    It's something to grab onto.
It really doesn't matter who the manufacturer or what model it is, factory rifles chambered in 284 Winchester will fetch more money than the same rifle in the more popular calibers.

I'll take it if you don't want it..they make me goofy too, but I stopped resisting and I've been much happier..and poorer.

I assume this would be a 22" barrel since it is a "newer" model ?
Any idea on how many 99's chambered in .284 were made ?
    Mad Dog ?
    Thanks

I think the model M (which is probably a model DL, with monte carlo butt), with the rotary magazine are more unique than the the Model C (clip) in 284. Maddog and the guys on 24hrcampfire will have an idea on quantity made. Does it have cut checkering or impressed?

The pics he showed me looked like they were impressed.
I am trying to get him to bring it to work so I can give it the once over.
We work construction, and they shipped him out to a different side of town, so we need to play phone tag for awhile.
    Thanks

I shoot a 284 in a 99F and I have shot it successfully to 800 yards. I use the Speer 145 gr boattail bullet. It is the best long range cartridge available in a factory built 99. I would grab it and shoot it alot if you like it.

    WoW
    57 grns of H4831 !
I was wondering about IMR4831 in this cartridge, I have had good luck with it in my 270 win and
I have been told the 4831 works good in cartridges that "bottle neck" down, such as this one.
How is extraction after shooting ?
I ask because it just sounds a little hot for the 99.
    THANKS
