    A Varmints Worst Nightmare

A Picture is worth a thousand rounds, "that's a play on they old saying" if this doesn't get the job done nothing will, 110gr Vmax's @ God only knows, I get 4400 FPS out of my 300 WinMag 30" 12 twist with 85gr of RL17 with the 110s, now add 20gr more powder for 105gr total and the slower twist rate, like I said I wont guess I will let the numbers out when I get them, although I am open to educated guesses, it is a Bartlein so it is my first cut rifle barrel I have ever owned, it is also a 30" with the taper starting way down, I would like to thank Jim at Apache gun works for his flawless workmanship as usual, that and putting up with my unconventional requests, that even he shakes his head at, Hey Jim I got to keep you on your toes and I would not want you to get bored,LOL Needless to say this is obviously a priority for me and will have the results soon.

Your eyes are not deceiving you it does say 300 RUM 17 Twist.

That's a 308 beside the 300, it is basically the same round only with twice the powder, LOL

The scope is a Swift 8 X 32 - 50 those are the best value in scopes going.

Your oneupmanship of yourself is truly incredible. Eventually you'll find the vapor zone, where no matter what bullet you spew out, it turns into vapor on its way to it's intended target. I'm still waiting for you to hit Mach I.
Cant wait to see the velocities you get.

That bolt handle looks like it was specifically designed for removing sticky brass from hot loaded ammo. Dean I like what you do. I may throw a jab here and there, but it's mostly because I wish I could play with these types of builds as much as you do. I think 108's out of my 8 twist 6.5-06 is about as hot as i'll go for now and that will more than likely be my varmint load for both hunting and varmint silhouette matches. The 140 VLDs is what I'm intending to use for long range competitions.

Great job on another fun, but not quite so wild cat build!

I enjoy the banter, notice how I put this in the 110 section instead of the wildcat section, I tell you the rifling and finish of those Bartleins are almost to nice to send a bullet though, come to think of it, this barrel is one of the few that I have that I don't have to fire form, or use several dies to shape the brass so I can chamber it, I was thinking of this I bet you I will be able to shoot those 168gr and stabilize them, somewhere around 4000FPS we will see.

    Dean

PS: As far as the bolt handle, stangfish made it for me, the down side is there is so much leverage, you can't tell if the brass is getting sticky. LOL

It does not get any flatter than than that, I would not be surprised if I make it out to 500 yards, before I start to see any bullet drop, I am already well past 400yards with some of my other rigs, and this one will easily surpass them, I can't wait.

I ran it through a basic calculator and it says that if the rifle is sighted for 100yds (with the scope at 1.5" above bore) that the 110 V-Max will only drop -3.0" at 300yds, -8.4" at 400yds, and -17.4" at 500yds but still has nearly 1900FT/Lbs of energy at 500yds and still traveling nearly 2800fps.

That thing isn't going to create a red mist cloud when its hits a pdog, its going to create a red mist Thunderstorm.

Hey Boots Thanks for posting that, and doing the math, what FPS did you put at the muzzle?

Have any of you considered using the 26 Nosler?
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I did consider it but then I stuck with the 6.5 RUM, in my case it was to stay with RUM brass, and keep things simpler, and it had better numbers.

Well you stated 4400fps with your 300WM above, so I estimated very conservatively for you at 4700FPS.

Great now no matter how stiff the bolt lift is, or how flat the primer is, I am going to keep adding powder until I reach 4700FPS, just to make sure boots did not waste his time, the pressures on, did you catch that, the pun, you know the play on words, pressure get it, never mind.

Sure hope that's a large shank barrel and 0.500" bolt lugs. Actually, I'd prefer custom 0.550" lugs.

As a matter of fact it is a small shank, all my RUM are small shanks, the major reason is "bolt thrust" they difference in they amount, and the duration of bolt thrust, are astronomical between the two, when launching a 110gr Vmax and launching a 208gr Amax, and that is what allows me to run a small shank.

Hey Dean. How clear is the Swift scope from 25 to 32 power? And how easy is it to acquire site picture and stay on it?

    Thanks....Jim :-))

Hey Jim, they are clear all the way to 32X, and the field of view is half decent, but by far there best feature is they stand up to my RUM, the are by far the best value going, as far as I am concerned anyways.
