6-06 loads

just bought a 6-06 barrel, i have more 30-06 brass than will live multiple setbacks of the barrel, a 243win FL die, and a Lee Collet 243 die.

Anything else needed? run the 30-06 brass in the 243 die to neck it down? (i dont care about brass life from such an extreame neck down, i have more-06 brass than i know what to do with) then neck size with collet die? anything else needed?

its an 8 twist, faster than i wanted but didnt want to wait 3 motnhs for a barrel

and what about loads? ive heard you can use 6-284 as a starting point, any pet loads?

I wouldn't try to go from .30 to .24 in one pass. I'd hit it with a 270, and then a 25/06 on my way to 6mm. Otherwise you may ruin more brass than you actually resize.

That works to work your way down. You might have to anneal your brass.

Not sure,
I have a good selection of .243 bullets, from 70 gr hollow points to 105 gr
Bergers. Probably will try 95-105 gr bergers for long range and maybe 75 ish grain v-max type bullets for red mist

RCBS makes a 25-06 trim die that is for necking down 30-06 to 25-06. I have been using one to neck down 30-06, and then a pass through my 6-06 FL die and I am good to go. I was using start loads for the 25-06 in a similar weight bullet with decent success as a starting point.

I did a recalculations on setting the bullet to 3.250 OAL I cut and pasted the powders that you listed. The software is load from a disk. I found out that early this summer the gentleman that made the program died, when i was doing my weekly updates which sometimes was nothing. It stopped working called tech support his wife answered the phone telling me he passed away, she shut the web site off, had no one to take care of it. the other program that I use is QuickLoad

I don't know, all my reading seems to point to the magnum powders for these bottle necked cases. I've been reading into it a lot lately while on deployment as I have a 6.5-06 build waiting for my return. Everything I read show to treat bottlenecked cases with heavy for caliber bullets like a magnum. I'm real interested in trying the Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR as it seems easier to get a hold of than H-1000, Retumbo, RL-17, and the likes. Then again I also have not been lucky shopping locally in Southern California and usually have to bite the bullet with the HAZMAT Fees online.

Ya lonewolf its funny how a powder like H1000 works for heavy wieght 22-250s, 243s, 25-06, 6.5x284, 280AI, 300 WM, all the way to 338 Lapua ect.

with a heavy for caliber bullet, with large case capacity and a long barrel, then slow burning powders give good results.

Ill probably start with H4350 with the lighter loads and retumbo for 105s or 115s

My 6x55 loves the H-4350. I'd like to get my hands on some MagPro tho. I have 2 unopened cans do H-1000 here and plan on trying it also.

I don't know, Finding H4350 is like trying to find Sparkling Unicorn Snot these days. If you see a can you better scoop it up right then and there because if you look away to think about it.... it will be gone to someone else lol.

Like Boots said, I just started with 25-06 loads and progressed from there, RL 17 and 19 and H4350 and H4831 are the most user friendly, although I have used Varget and CFE223 with 55,58,60gr bullets, mine is an AI version and a 12 twist but can still shoot 105s and 107gr bullets easy.
