    284 win in 99

    Hello,
Thoughts and recommendations for 284 winchester loads in a savage 99.
I have a lead on one and would like some input before I decide one way or another.
I do reload quite a few rifles including 99's just none in 284 win.
I have read about it having a short neck, but so does the 300 savage and I have had no problems reloading for them.
    Thanks

Max magazine length on a 99 284 is 2.8", so no concern with hanging bullets out too far in the neck. You wont be shooting any 180g VLD's out of a 99... 51.1g of Re-17 behind a 140g Nosler (at 2.78" LOA, = 2835fps), and go consistently into 1-1/4" 100yd groups through my 99C. If the price is right grab it!

    Thanks,
Yes limited OAL with the internal magazine, but it will be a hunting rifle if I end up purchasing it, so the mid weight bullets like 140 grain will be the norm.
    Re-17
My Nosler #4 has 15 and 19 shown. No 17
    Primer ?
    THANKS

Brass would be a problem if you don't have it already. Winchester has not made any in awhile you may have to neck up 6.5-284 Lapua.
