have a New savage 10 fcpk 308, that shoot 147gr PMC fine, but 175gr SMK FGMM will jam into the throat/chamber, bolt wont close, pull the bolt backward separate case from bullet, spill powder all over.
the over all length is about 2.803", but SMK bullet seem has more bearing surface. already send the rifle back to savage, they polish the chamber etc. but I still can't fire 175gr FGMM after i got it back from them. any ideas? resend back to savage for throated? or what else(maybe stick to 147-168gr, hopefully the throat will get longer after few hundred rd)?
i try to measure the OAL with spend case and SMK like ppl did on youtube, but the SMK will just stuck in the throat/chamber/lands.

Try to measure the throat again. This time maybe try a little lube on the lands and a little less neck tension on the case so it doesn't push the bullet into the lands in quite so firmly.

Measure several times writing each one down. Take average of each reading. As a tip, I find it most consistent by having the bullet extended most of the way out, have the rod set screw tightened down slightly so it keeps slight resistance and slide the gauge bullet case and all into the chamber.
When I say resistance I mean just enough so the rod doesn't move freely under its own weight.
I found while using a standard case, no matter how much I played with the neck tension, I couldn't get consistent results. Now I did find the gauge somewhere else I believe and it was cheaper when I purchased it last year but at least you know whats out there.
And as an added tidbit, consider getting a Bullet comparator tool, it will allow you to measure from the ogive to the base giving you more consistent readings, the tool above is made to work with said comparator.

i guess ill shoot some 168gr see if its accurate/fit in the throat.
Having a very similar problem on a 6.5 Creedmoor Savage 12 LPR. What I have found is the Ogive on the Hornady 140 and 120 is further foreword than the Berger bullets. The Hornady's are jamming in to the LANs and the Bergers do not.
i think I will polish the throat.
I have a similar issue with 168 smk fgmm, all factory ammo. All of a sudden the bolt gets stuck and when I pull on it the round is separated from the shell. The kicker is when I go to knock out the round it only takes one good tap, so it doesn't feel like it should separate from the shell. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
i have no prob shooting 168 FGMM, just 175 FGMM. talk to savage their spec is base on SAMI. I think she meant SAAMI

it look like the spec for COAL is 2.49-2.81 which can explain why most savage has short throat. but WOW 2.49 min for coal. however, if savage is base on these spec then Yes their rifle is within spec.
when i use hornady OAL for 175 fgmm it give me 2.77ish
