here is my new to me 22 hornet. this is the 3rd savage hornet, i will keep this one. it has a vintage usa made 2x7 redfield and i think a savage made mount. this gun shoots one hole groups with factory ppu 45gr sp. my handloads are a close second with a speer 45gr sp and lil,gun with wolf small pistol primers. i had a 340 about 20 years ago with pressed checkering that had what looked to be a piece of extra fancy walnut. it was beautiful i wished i would have kept that one.

Nice looking finish on the wood. My .222 looks that nice, but it took hours and hours of oiling after stripping the factory finish.

I have the idea that all those mounts were made by Weaver. One of mine (NOS from evilBay) as I remember came in Weaver packaging,

    Agree 100% with your load.

    Hi Guys Newby here,
    Just purchased a 340 22 hornet as a project.
It is missing the barrel band and the scope mounts looks like a cheapy.
My question is should I just get a new band from numrich or has anyone tried brazing another mount on the rear of the trigger group.
I have seen a guy on the web do this to bed and float the rifle.
I guess it should shoot ok with the barrel band.
    Any web links much appreciated.
    cheers

Olskool, very nice. Interesting mount on that rifle...never seen one quite like it before, at least on a non-military rifle anyways. Very nice.

That is the factory stamped steel integral mount and rings for the model 340. I have that same mount on my .223 model 340E with a steel tube Weaver K4. Not real attractive but quite serviceable.
By the way OP, that is a nice looking Hornet.
