    22-250 To 223 Remington?

I've been thinking about this for a bit and it seems all a guy would need would be a 223 bolt head for about $20 or so from Midway. Is this right, or is there more to it.
    Thank you.

Bolt head, barrel, and magazine for the 223. And the proper tools to do the swap of course.

The question is why??? Why would you down grade? It would be like trading in your f-350 super crew diesel for a Mazda B2000....

    Just kidding .223 guys....

Thankfully the 22-250 action I was looking at in the classifieds has sold. It was a blind magazine, staggered feed. I'm curious as to why a new magazine would've been necessary. It looks like the 22-250 cartridge is a bit longer than the 223 Remington; shouldn't the latter work okay in that magazine?

Magazine length is not the issue there. The design of the feed lips is a fair bit different and the ledge in the follower differs also due to the vast difference between the diameters of the case bodies.

Thank you Boots. I suspected there might have been more to this than meets the eye. I bedded my last project with the blind, stagger feed magazine still attached to the receiver because it looked like a PIA to take off. Not sure if this opportunity will ever present itself again, but would I just order the 223 magazine I need from Savage; and would it fit the opening in the bottom of the 22-250 receiver?

I got the tools, I've changed one barrel, collecting the knowledge is a lifetime process.

    Thanks

I wrote a thread that the Mods here made into an article with some good pics describing the process for changing magazines.

    Yes a 223 SF magazine will fit right into a 22-250, 243, 7-08, 308, etc, action.

Thank you. I did read your article, which is well written, but opted for the leave-the-****-thing-on approach after seeing some pics of that method.

Keep passing on the good info; you sure help me to stay on track.
