got my first 99..G or EG ?

Just got my first 99 and I'm pretty happy with it.

Near as I can tell it's a model G takedown from 1940 in 300 Savage, 24" barrel. I'm pretty sure it's a G as it has the same barrel profile as my buddy's 1899, but mine has the front sight mounted in a ramp that is molded as part of the barrel

the wood is good, the steel is very good and the bore is excellent. It also has factory sling swivels.

The only flaw is that there is a chunk of wood missing from the side of the forestock at the tip. I'm going to attempt my first repair and if I mess it up, I'll be looking for a replacement.

I'll get some pics up when I get it to the range.

I'm thinking of putting a Marbles peep on it as no one seems to make a receiver sight anymore and it's not d&t for scope

the G and EG did not come with factory sling swivles, it sounds like you have a EG model in my favorite cal. if you handload try varget or imr 4064 powder.

isn't the only difference between the G and EG the barrel profile ?

yes the barrel is a light weight barrel on a G model. if it is a G it should be marked G on the front end of the frame. the sel. numbers ran 238,000-407,00 (approx) on the G i hope this helps. either way you have a good rifle.

The G and EG had different checkering on the forearms and one was a solid frame, the other a take down model.

    Sling swivels or sling eyes?
    Savage- "never say never".
