10 ML II vs Maine Moose

I'm going moose hunting this fall and would like to use my new 10MLII. I have not shot this gun much, I bought it last year and fired it a dozen times or so using Accurate 5744, mmp black sabots and Hornady XTP 300 gr bullets, wiht great results. I'm looking to go to the barnes expander MZ or the Scorpion PT gold, both in 300 gr bullets. I'm looking for advice from anyone using these projectiles and hopefully the 5744 powder.

Let me know if you have any constructive advice. thanks

I don't have an ML, but I use Parker Production bullets in my T/C and love them, http://www.parkerproductionsinc.com/

I use 5744 and hornady 300 XTP. Killed several deer and hogs here in FL. 150 yds is about my range limit but I think further would not be a problem with some practice. Check your local laws, not every state appreciates the 10 ML. I have also used Barnes 300 and 350 gr but I think the Hornadys are more accurate. Now if I could just get some more Hornadys.

The 300 gr .458 Barnes Original with orange MMP sabots are hard to beat and accurate. They have a higher BC (.291) than most ML bullets and are tough for excellent terminal performance. They shoot well with A5744. But you'll get more speed and range with 57-60 grains of N120 in my experience. My Savage 10MLII likes 58gr of N120 (2300 MV) under the Barnes Original. My bore is a little loose, so I have to use the MMP 3 petal sabots instead of the orange MMP sabots to get a tight fit and reliable ignition with A5744 or N120. I have the load zeroed for 150 yards and that gives me a bullet path 1.5" @100, -4"@ 200 and -11"@250 yds. I have killed deer at 275 yards and a moose should be no problem out to 200 -250 yds with good shot placement. Check out www.randywakeman.com for lots more information on loads for the Savage 10ML.

Go to "Dougs Message Board" there is a section on Smokeless ML, you will be able to find some good information there and ask questions and get good answers. There is also a section that list loads that guys have shot in their guns.
