    280 ai powder

Getting ready to load up some test loads but I'm not sure which powder to use. I am planning on loading 140 ttsx. I will use this antelope hunting and mule deer hunting so there will be a large temp swing between the two seasons. Was thinking abou using Reloader 22 but not sure with the temp difference. Any advise from other 280 shooters?

H4831 or even H4350 should work well in that bullet weight. H4831 would probably be where I would start.

My 280AI 23" #2 contour barrel preferred IMR7828 over H4831. Excellent results with 154gr Hornady SST's. Could not find any RL22 to try at the time. But today the local gun shop actually had Alliant Powder (RL15, 17, 19, 22 and 25) on the shelf. First I've found in over a year at any of the gun shops I visit regularly in KY or TN.

DO NOT use the Reloader 22. That is the most temperature sensitive powder I have ever used. Lots of speed and no idea where the bullet is headed with every 10 degrees of increase in temps.

I do however really like Reloader 17 for my 300winmag and 300WSM. Great stuff. However not made in the same place as the 22.

Hummm...Its the only powder I've used in the my 280 Imps including the RCBS since the '80s. Of course they are or were whitetail clubs so I rarely shot them when temps were above 50.

Used to use it in a varmint silhouette competition. I could zero at 8AM at 300(65 degrees)meters and be over 6in high at the same range at 11AM(85 to 90 degrees). The hotter it got the more erratic it shot.

I currently have Reloader 22, imr4831, and vv n165 to try. If one of those wont work I'll try h4831. Also gonna try with cci250 primers.

Jason I have been using a full house load of imr 4831 in mine with 140gr ballistic tips. It shoots great.

I shoot H1000 with 140s in my 280ai right below 3100fps, but I think it's a tad on the slow side for burn rate- used it because I couldn't find h4831but I shoots great so I never changed it.
