Bolt head ejector???

Great site (just found it) and first post.

I'm out at the range today (Sunday) doing some load testing and noticed that on the last shot that it would not eject from the action. I was having some problems with a few rounds before with loose primer pockets and getting smoke and some blowback (primers not seated) into the bolt. So the problem is that now the ejector is jammed into the head and I can't seem to take it apart to see if it is damaged. Anyone got any ideas??? I tried to get a great pic but the camera just would focus up close...

Now today I was able to get the retainer pin out but for some reason the ejector pin won't. Anyone got any ideas or is the head fubar???

Put it in a plastic bag first. Use a small punch or screw driver to push the ejector plate over until it slides over the spring with ball bearing on top. The plastic bag is to catch the spring and steel ball which otherwise will shoot across the room and be lost forever. I clean out the crud buildup with a blast of brake cleaner. Some have gone to a slightly bigger steel ball which I believe SSS now carries in stock. Search archives for more information on this "ejector" issue which seems to be a common complaint on the forum.

They can be a bear!

First try dumping some bore cleaner, Kroil, kerosene or something that eats powder on it, let it set for awhile then slam the bugger face down on a block of wood. That may get it to move out far enough to grab it with a needle nosed pliers. I already had to resort to drilling them out. Fred has had some luck using a vibrating engraving tool.

Fish'n the spring out is another head scratcher. I've used drill bits, a piece of a small spring with a hook bent on them, working a small drill bit in them then pull it out with a pliers and sometimes I've just got downright violent and slammed the dog snot out of them.

Worst case, buy another bolthead,ejector and spring.

I have soaked the bolt head in some Hoppes overnight and then tapped the ejector with a small punch. If you can get it to move a little it will eventually free enough to remove it. The spring is probably over compressed too so you'll have to stretch it out or replace it. I think the engraving tool trick might work well too.

Well, I got it out tonight. After soaking it in WD40 overnight and with some Hoppes solvent, I was able to slam the bolt onto my work table and get the ejector out just a tiny bit. All it took then was a set of cutters to grab just the slightest bit of it and I was able to get it out some more and then the rest was a piece of cake. As you can see by the pic there was no way that this was going to come out by itself. I guess that it hit back with enough force to deform that pin. It's kinda hard to tell by the pic but the right side of the pin is rounded out and not squared like the left.
