I bought a Savage Edge today.

So I was looking into buying the oldest boy a Stevens in .223 today.<they had none>.So I bought one of the new Edge series rifles instead. Hers what I found.
1. trigger is non-adjustable though it breaks cleanly at 3 lbs.
2. There is no recoil lug on the action. It is held in place by a slot in the stock and a notch in the reciever.
3. The stock is terrible.
4.There is only one option for scope mounts right now. Luckily they are included.
5. But it cost $319.00 with scope so you can't complain to much.
6. But most importantly the damn thing will shoot!!!! 3 shot groups of .8" @100 meters with off the shelf PPU serbian ammo with only a bipod shooting prone.
I will let you all know more once I have worked up a few good loads and spend some seat time at the range.

COOL ! ! !
Tell us more !

In what ways is the stock terrible, does it flex?

How are the scope mounts diferent?

Ok for those asking, the stocks is very flexy. Even the wrist of the stock has flex. And the butt of the stock can be compressed with your fingers. Also the trigger gaurd is a massive piece of plastic that is retained at the wrist area with a plastic tab that locks it into place. The reciever for those wondering is machined in a manner much like the Stolle benchrest actions. ie open port, flat top angled sides and bottom much in the shape of hexagon so bedding the action into another stock would be simple enough.
The scope mounts are like basic weaver style mounts but flat so one could buy a piece of picatinny stock from Millet and make their own but as of right now there is no other option so use a long tube scope because the spacing of the mounts is almost 5" cross slot to cross slot.

WEll, sorry to have to say it but it doesnt sound like a challenge to the Marlin. Based on this description and I was looking for a new rifle it would be a Stevens or Marlin, probably a Marlin. On our sight in day I saw a lot more Marlin bolt actions that Savage.

Why worry about Marlin vs Edge? I'd just get the Stevens for maybe 15 bucks more...

Does anyone know the screw spacing on these yet?

Dealer price between the Edge and the Stevens is a $40.00 difference. From what I have seen of the Edge, spend the $40.00, buy atleast the Stevens and get a gun that you can work with.

Don't know why one would worry about screw spacing..there are no stocks compatible with the factory set-up.

Well I figured if it was 5", there may be a way to mod an existing LA stock and make it fit. . . Seems that is not an option though!

Thanks for the info!!!
